ER/ECC – Veterinarian – Sydney

We have an exciting opportunity for 2-3 ER/ECC Veterinarians to join our clients purpose-built hospital in beautiful sunny Sydney, Australia. Locum and Part Time will also be considered on a case by case basis.

Our client is a privately-owned world-class specialist and 24-hour emergency hospital, Advanced Treatment Centre (ATC) also offering a mobile specialist service to local veterinarians around greater Sydney area.

With a team of over 180 passionate people, with specialists in internal medicine, surgery and diagnostic imaging and other sub-specialities on the near horizon including neurology, cardiology, ECC, oncology and A&A.

The hospital is supported by 17 well trained emergency veterinarians that run the busy emergency department. A unique feature that sets this hospital apart is undoubtedly the culture. They are fierce about looking after one another and collectively that’s makes them exceptional.  Their model is simple– let specialists do specialist things and allow the support staff to shine. They won’t make it hard when asking for additional nurses, interns or equipment, they know you need them!

There is strong and innovative interventional radiology department, they perform intra-arterial chemotherapy, prostatic embolisation, liver trans-arterial chemoembolisation, vascular stenting, all endourology techniques and some interventional cardiac techniques including pacemakers and balloon valvuloplasty. The surgery dept is paving the way with bionic limbs and osteointegration techniques. The soft tissue surgeons are also exceptional, enthusiastic and most importantly approachable. They enjoy cardiac surgery, neurology as well as all complex cases.

Nurses, reception and all operational staff are like minded and awesome. They bring a smile and a ‘can do’ attitude every day. They are inspired by the passion in their veterinary leaders and are side by side on the same journey. The hospital aims for a 2-3 nurse to specialist ratio in addition interns and residents. There is a dedicated intensive care area currently, however in 3 months the new ICU will be ready.

This will house brand-new high dependency crib, integrated Menios ICU beds and Servo-U ventilators with high flow oxygen to name a few.

Current array of equipment includes:

▪ Siemens Magnetom 1.5T MRI

▪ Siemens Go.Up 64 slice CT

▪ Siemens Mobile X-ray machines (can be moved to the patient bedside)

▪ Philips Zenition Fluoroscopy

▪ Philips Epic Ultra ultrasound and 2x CX-50 portable units

▪ Maquet Servo-I Ventilators (will be updated to Servo-U touchscreen with high flow O2)

▪ Olympus and Storz full array of endoscopy equipment

▪ On-hand stents for ALL situations

▪ Canine blood bank with on-site cherished feline donors

▪ In-house blood gas (EPOC), biochemistry, haematology, coagulation, etc.

▪ TEG access locally

The Candidate:

The ideal candidate will be adaptive, have an open mind, willing to learn, be a team-player and have exceptional communication skills. Sharing of knowledge, technique, and experience with each other is vital. A sense of humour is important.

Experience and Qualifications:

The successful applicant will ideally have some post qualification experience as a vet and ideally some experience working in an emergency setting;  primary care/ GP vets are also welcome to apply if you have been looking to work in an ER focussed environment.
