Emergency Veterinarian or Hybrid ER/GP Role – Part-time, full-time or casual opportunity

The Hospital

This hospital prides itself on having a great team focused environment. Through the collaboration of the entire veterinary team, they strive to provide best practice care for all their patients in-house while maintaining exceptional customer service. The hospital is staffed by an outstanding team of emergency veterinarians and nurses, working alongside specialists in internal medicine and surgery. They also have a visiting anaesthesiologist and cardiologist and have access to oncology specialists.

The hospital is a purpose-built facility with multiple consulting rooms, a dedicated ICU suite, two surgical theatres and a spacious rest area for staff. They are equipped with the latest in diagnostic equipment including CT, fluoroscopy, digital radiography, ultrasonography, IDEXX lab equipment, blood gas analysis and coagulation testing. They are also equipped with endoscopy, critical care ventilator and multiparameter monitors.

The role

We are looking for an emergency veterinarian to join a friendly and positive emergency and critical care (ECC) team. The opportunities within the group are limitless – you have the option of joining either in a permanent full-time, part-time or casual ECC role, but if you would still like to be involved in general practice and love seeing puppy vaccinations and enjoy the follow up, we also have a hybrid rotating ECC/GP role available on a full-time basis.

The emergency department enjoys a busy and varied load, encompassing a broad range of emergency and critical care cases. The emergency veterinarian position involves primary responsibility for the care and treatment of referred and primary accession cases arriving through the emergency department, as well as assistance in the care of hospitalised patients from our specialist departments. Management of cases often involves contributions from multiple specialist disciplines, providing an excellent opportunity for learning and case follow-up.

The Vet

  • New Grads are welcome to apply, but ideally a minimum of 1 year of veterinary experience. Experience working in emergency practice is not essential but will be viewed favourably.
  • Proficient in approaching emergency cases, performing emergency soft tissue surgery and emergency procedures. However, if you do not have all the skills required and are happy to learn, they will help you get there!
  • Excellent communication skills, time management and the capability of working together with a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Passion for emergency and critical care and commitment to continued learning to provide the best patient care.

What we will offer you:

  • Opportunity to work with and learn from industry leading specialists.
  • A competitive salary package based on qualifications and experience.
  • Generous continuing education allowance.
  • In-house education program.
  • Five weeks annual leave and one week study leave.
  • A sustainable roster consisting of a mix of days, overnight and weekend shifts.
  • Access to the GP network and generous staff discounts.

The Emergency and Referral Hospital is located at the gateway to the scenic Mornington Peninsula – famed for the local beaches and wineries. The hospital is easily accessible via the major freeways just 1 hour from Melbourne’s CBD and only 30 minutes from the south or eastern suburbs – ideally situated to provide either easy access for commuting or an idealistic location for living.
